How to apply AI assistant changes through Google Ads Editor

Have the AI assistant prepare changes, then review and post them yourself in Google Ads Editor.

Written by Michaela Mastella

The TrueClicks AI assistant can prepare changes for a Google Ads account, like new campaigns or new ad copy, in a format you can paste into Google Ads Editor. Editor shows you everything that will be added, edited, or removed, and nothing goes live until you post it.

When to use this route

Use it when you want the assistant to do the build work but keep the final say yourself. The assistant doesn’t touch the account. You review and post every change in Editor.

Good fit:

  • Building new Search campaigns, ad groups, keywords, and responsive search ads

  • Changing campaign daily budgets, ad group default max CPCs, and keyword max CPCs

  • Adding or removing negative keywords at campaign or ad group level

  • Pausing or enabling campaigns, ad groups, or keywords

  • Updating final URLs on keywords

Not a good fit:

Before you start

  • The AI assistant is enabled for the account. See TrueClicks AI assistant specifications.

  • Google Ads Editor is installed, and the account is downloaded.

  • You have edit access to the Google Ads account.

Prepare and import changes

  1. In TrueClicks, open the account and go to the AI Assistant tab.

  2. Describe the changes you want and ask for them in Google Ads Editor format. For example: “Build a new campaign on Competitor search terms ready to import into Google Ads Editor”

  3. Get the output in one of two ways:

    • Copy Changes to paste straight into Editor, where you review it.

    • Download the CSV file if you want to check or edit the changes before importing, for example in Excel or Google Sheets.

Note: You can’t view the changes in TrueClicks itself. You review them in the CSV file, in Editor, or both.

  4. In Google Ads Editor, select the account and click Get recent changes so Editor has the current campaign and ad group names.

  5. Import the changes using one of these options:

    • Paste the copied text: go to Account > Import > Paste text, paste the output, and click Process.

    • Import the CSV file: go to Account > Import > From file, select the file, and click Open.

  6. Review the import summary. Editor lists how many items will be added, edited, and removed.

  7. Click Finish and review changes, check the changes in the account tree, then click Keep to accept them.

  8. Click Post to push the changes to Google Ads.

Note: Until you click Post, nothing changes in the live account. You can reject the whole import or individual changes in Editor.

How changes map to your account

Google Ads Editor imports don’t use campaign IDs. Each row is matched to your account by campaign name and ad group name.

  • If the name matches an existing campaign or ad group, Editor updates it.

  • If the name doesn’t match anything, Editor creates a new campaign or ad group.

Important: Names must match exactly. A typo, extra space, or outdated name creates a duplicate instead of updating the original. Always click Get recent changes before importing, and check the “added” count in the import summary for anything you didn’t expect.

Editing existing ads

The AI assistant can’t edit or pause existing ads through an import. It can add new responsive search ads to existing ad groups, so you can draft a new version and pause the old one yourself in Editor.

Which changes the AI assistant can prepare for Google Ads Editor

Use this table to check whether the assistant can prepare a change as an import, or whether you need to make it in Google Ads or Google Ads Editor yourself.
