Import budgets and targets from Google Sheets

Manage budgets and targets for all your accounts in one sheet. TrueClicks syncs it every day.

Written by Michaela Mastella

If your budgets and targets already live in a spreadsheet, you don’t need to type them into TrueClicks one by one. Connect a Google Sheet once, and TrueClicks picks up every change you make in it.

Why use a sheet

  • Set up many accounts at once. Add budgets and targets for all your accounts in one place, instead of creating them one by one.

  • Keep one source of truth. Change a budget in the sheet, and TrueClicks updates it the next morning.

  • Let clients enter their own budgets. Share the sheet with your client and let them fill in their budgets. TrueClicks monitors what they entered, so nothing gets lost or mistyped between the client and your team.

How to connect a Google Sheet

  1. Go to Targets / Budgets.

  2. Click the upload icon at the top right of the table (Import targets from Google Sheets).

This opens the Import targets from Google Sheets window, where you connect your sheet in three steps.

  3. Click Make a copy to create your own copy of our template, then add your budgets and targets (see Filling the template for more information).

  4. Click Copy email address and share your copy with that address as Viewer. It’s a service account TrueClicks uses to read the sheet. It can’t edit anything.

  5. Paste the link to your Google Sheet and click Add.

Your budgets and targets now appear under Targets / Budgets.

How syncing works

TrueClicks reads your sheet every morning and updates your budgets and targets to match it. It’s not a one-time import: any change you make in the sheet shows up in TrueClicks the next day.

  • Changed a value in the sheet? It’s updated in TrueClicks at the next sync.

  • Deleted a row? The budget or target is removed from TrueClicks during the next sync, automatically, or you can start a manual sync.

  • Edited an imported budget in TrueClicks? Change it in the sheet. Imported budgets and targets can’t be edited in TrueClicks, so the sheet is always the source of truth.

Check your imports

Open the History tab in the same window to see each sync and whether it went through.

To see which budgets came from a sheet, look for the cloud icon next to the budget in the Targets / Budgets overview. Budgets without the icon were created in TrueClicks or auto-imported from Google Ads or Microsoft Ads.

Filling in the template

Each row in the Budgets / Targets – use this sheet tab becomes one budget or target in TrueClicks. Don’t rename, reorder, or delete columns. The Example tab shows filled-in rows you can copy from.

  • Ignore
Enter yes to skip a row during the sync. Leave empty to import the row. Useful for pausing a target without deleting it.

  • Name
A unique, descriptive name that includes the time frame, e.g. BrandNewShoes UK monthly budget or BrandNewShoes UK quarterly ROAS branded.

  • Google Ads (Customer IDs)
The 10-digit customer ID, without dashes, e.g. 2689698621. For a cross-account target, enter multiple IDs separated by line breaks.

  • Microsoft Adv. (Customer IDs)
The Microsoft Advertising customer ID. Fill in this column, the Google Ads column, or both. Using both creates a cross-platform target.

  • Schedule
Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, or Custom. Weekly, monthly, and quarterly schedules repeat automatically and don’t need to start on the first day of a week, month, or quarter.

  • Start date
Format YYYY-MM-DD, e.g. 2026-10-01. Can be in the past.

  • Repeat (empty = forever)
Leave empty to keep repeating the schedule indefinitely.

  • Target metric

    • Pacing targets: Cost, Clicks, Conversions, Conv. value.

    • Efficiency targets: CPA, ROAS, CPC.

  • Target value
A number without currency symbols, with a dot as decimal separator, e.g. 8500 or 4.5. Enter ROAS as a ratio: 4.5 means a ROAS of 450%. One value per row, so for a different budget each month, update the value in the sheet before the new month starts.

  • Value currency
A three-letter currency code from the Currencies tab, e.g. EUR or USD. If an account uses a different currency, TrueClicks converts it at the current exchange rate.

  • Campaign filter
Which campaigns the target covers: All campaigns, Name contains, Name doesn’t contain, Label contains, or Campaign type.

  • Campaign filter value
The word or label to filter on, e.g. brand. Leave empty for All campaigns. Separate multiple values with commas. Make sure your values don’t overlap: brand also matches campaigns named non-brand.

Optional columns:

  • Notifications (empty for default)
Progress emails. Leave empty for the default (25%, 50%, and 75%). To set your own, enter percentages between 5 and 95.

  • Threshold Under 1 / Threshold Over 1 / Priority 1
How far the target can be off before TrueClicks flags it, and how urgent that is.

    • Thresholds are percentages between 1 and 99. Leave empty for the default of 5%.

    • Priority is Critical, High, Medium, Low, or Insight.

  • Threshold Under 2 / Threshold Over 2 / Priority 2
Optional second level, for an extra warning when the target is further off. Example: 10% off is Medium (level 1), 20% off is High (level 2).

Tips

  • One sheet can cover all your accounts. You don’t need a sheet per client.

  • Keep editing rights tight. If clients enter their own budgets, give edit access only to the people who should change them. TrueClicks treats whatever is in the sheet as the truth.

  • Don’t rename or reorder the template columns.
